Obsidian is a glassy volcanic rock rich in silica. It comes from an acid lava (rhyolite type). Chemical composition: Si O2 (mainly silicon dioxide). Class of Oxides. The obsidian is transparent to translucent and has a glassy texture and luster.

 

Gray, dark green, red or black in color, rarely green.

 

We will distinguish:

- plain obsidian, black or blue.

- speckled obsidian, also called star obsidian, or snowflakes obsidian

- golden or silver obsidian dotted with fluffy golden or silver clouds

- the rainbow obsidian or "celestial eye" iridescent with purple gray and pale green areas concentric, blue but bright.
