Tradition:

 

The origin of its name comes from the color of the dogwood fruit, the color of the flesh. In ancient Egypt, Carnelian, a variety of Chalcedony, represented red, a symbol of life. Linked to religious practices, it accompanied the deceased during their long journey to the afterlife. The gem thus adorned the precious funeral pectoral of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
